    Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience

The COPE program is one of the most challenging programs Camp Brule offers. The program is geared toward the older Scouts who have been to camp before and are looking for something more.

Project C.O.P.E. is a Challenging Outdoor Physical Experience program that challenges participants to reach their fullest potential. Those taking part are exposed to lessons and values that will last a lifetime.
Our foundation is built on a philosophy called “Challenge by Choice.” Participants are given positive encouragement to
strive for a goal that, to them, is beyond their reach. Whatever the challenge, “success is measured by attempt.”
Project COPE provides an opportunity for each participant to achieve success as an individual and as a member of a team. The activities are not designed to be competitive or to be races against time.

Seven major goals of Project C.O.P.E.
    1. Development of Leadership
    2. Problem Solving
    3. Communication
    4. Self Esteem
    5. Trust
    6. Decision making
    7. Team Work

The waterfront of any camp is undoubtedly the most popular area on a hot day.

Camp Brule doesn't have a pool. They don't need one, they have a lake. Elk Lake is the centerpiece of Camp Brule. It is also the home for the aquatics area.

Brule's Aquatics has everything you would expect to find at a camp, from canoes and rowboats to kayaks, sailboats and even a catamaran! It also has a very large swimming area. They do special events like a water carnival and mile swim.

    Our First year camper program.

The Dan Beard Program at Camp Brulé was developed in 1995 and revised in 2008. In this program, it is possible for a new Scout to complete all of the practical requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class. During his week at camp he may also complete one or two merit badges.

Dan Beard Program has its own program area and the format used is round-robin. After completing the requirements at one station, he moves to the next. We find this format to be the most efficient teaching and learning model. It also eliminates the bored scout.

The Scout works in the Dan Beard Area from 10:00 AM to Noon daily. There are several afternoons that he will spend an hour of so in the area.

In general, Scoutmasters like this program because it takes a lot of pressure off them. The Dan Beard Area is manned by competent instructors who like working with this age group. The area is well equipted and has become a special place for our new Scouts.
